Update

After working for a couple of days the rotovator has died again and despite doing everything we can think of it just won't start...really bloody frustrating.

An English couple want to rent my house at Pont de la Taule for 6 months, starting in about 4-5 weeks times...so it's all hands on deck starting Monday to get the huge amount of works completed that are required to make it habitable. Meantime I'm trying to finish all the other outstanding works, mainly a complicated set of cupboards/shelves that sit in the well of the staircase in John and Sandrine's gite.

Rupert stayed over yesterday on his way to the off-road event in the Spanish Pyrenees which he helps to set up each year. He's coming back with his Australian girlfriend in a week or so's time.

The weather is slowly getting less humid and less cloudy but it's still poor for this time of year and with the humidity comes the flies...they're driving me mad.

J rang me on Tuesday about an English couple who could have been interested in renting our house for 6 months from Sep - I am guessing the couple who are taking Pont de la Taule are the same pair?

When I was married & lived in rural northern California we had both a lawnmower & a rototiller.
Several times both stopped dead and wouldn't start. The problem in both cases was a small piece of metal (probably potmetal or aluminium) which was sort of a safety measure--it would break and prevent the motor from being damaged (usually due to rough ground or something hitting the blade in the case of the mower.
It's been a long time and I don't remember the name of the item (key?) but it's one of those simple little things that people usually forget.
Mind you, it's just a suggestion, perhaps it will ring a bell in someone else's mind..
hope you get it fixed soon, so nice to have the machine do the work for us.
best wishes,
Lynda

Hi Lynda

I think it's called a "shear-link" or "shear-pin", it protects the drive shaft from damage when you hit an immovable object. Alas my problem is an altogether different one. Have had some more ideas as to what it might be, but as I don't need to use the rotovator until next spring it can wait...I have more urgent tasks to do!!

Thanks for the comment.
