Hot at last

For the past few days the heat has been building and yesterday and today the thermometer is stuck on 36 in the shade (97 fahrenheit). Too hot to do much in the afternoons/evenings.

On Saturday I had to do the changeover on John and Sandrine's gite, in the evening Ian, Nina, Alun and Breezy came for dinner. Gazpacho, pork and aubergine then a Dorset apple cake. After the sun had set we sat out in the relative cool watching the shooting stars.

This morning early I tidied up the crown of the huge walnut tree which went over in the May snow. A much bigger job than I had imagined. There are now another three big bonfires of branches to burn. At lunchtime I descended to the village which is "en fete" at the moment for l'apero. Dédé and Minsou invited me for lunch with their daughter, son in law and their friends. A lovely drawn out lunch in good company which didn't finish until after 5.00pm.
