Cabane d'Eychelle

The Indian summer continues (a reward for a tough first half to the year) so today Ian and I went for a leisurely stroll up to the Cabane d'Eychelle from the Col de le Core.
It was hot and we were post holing through the crusty snow. Not a cloud in the sky but plenty of gossamer threads of spider's web glinting in the intense sun and drifting on the gentle breeze. Meantime the valleys remained under a sea of low cloud. At the Cabane d'Eychelle we found an unopened bottle of Bordeaux and couldn't resist. We progressed no further and snoozed in the sun. In payment we took the litter left at the hut back down the mountain.
Too much wine!

I recognise the cabin, is it the one we stopped at on the way down, the first time I visited. Did you ever see any ice further up in the same spot as before as well? Snow looks good, surely there will be plenty more even if the wind does spoil it.

Yeah it's a regular ice fall, haven't climbed it yet though. Snow is continuing to fall up high, just itching to get out on the skis.

miserable rain here. I'll keep an eye out for the first ski tour blog.

Hi Lee,
Fabulous photos as I would expect. Road trip out to Chamonix rapidly approaching. Have the fuel issues finally been resolved?
Pleased to see that you are starting winter exploits.

Yeah the fuel situation is pretty much normal. Itching to get on the skis, but a snowshoe might have to suffice until we get a thicker base.

Thaanks Lee,
Will let ya know what Chamonix is like when we get there.
Have a good one.
