Hors piste Mercredi

Several inches of snow at Quélébu this morning but spoiled by a brief spell of rain early this morning that had turned it a bit slushy.  However, fresh snow promised good things at Guzet.  I skied there on Monday with Sandrine and enjoyed the pistes but struggled off-piste - I can't seem to get my piste skis to perform off the groomed slopes: too heavy, too stiff, wide tipped and narrow under foot - not a recipe for off piste.  So today I took only my touring skis and boots: mid-fat, light and soft.  

5-6cm de neige ici le matin, mais elle a abimé par la pluie plus tôt, toutes sont pourris. Toutefois, la neige frâiche promiser des belles chose à Guzet.  Lundi, je faisais du ski là avec sandrine, &ccerd;a va sur les pistes mais hors piste a été dur. Je ne peut pas faire de ski hors piste avec mes skis de piste - trop lourd, trop raide, trop etroite sur le pied.  Donc aujourd'hui j'ai porté mais chaussures et skis de rando - mid-fat, legères et doux.

At guzet the fresh snow was heavier than Ian and I had expected but there was plenty of it.  On the easier pistes conditions were horrible as the snow had fallen after the slopes were groomed.  But on the steeper pistes, virtually untracked when we arrived late morning, things were better. Soon I got used to the very soft ski/boot combination.  Frustratingly my touring boots have two forward lean settings - "too much" and "not enough"!  It was when we went off-piste that the day was made. They opened the lift to Freychet at 1.30 and we were first on it - higher up the snow was much deeper and off-piste either side of the black runs was amazing.  Steep terrain for big turns at speed - I've had the joy of off-piste skiing revealed to me today!

A Guzet la neige sont plus lourd que nous attendons, mais il y avait beaucoup.  Sur les pistes vertes et bleues les conditiones sont pas terrible parce que la neige a tombé après la neige a été tasser.  Par contre sur les pistes raides, sans traces, il etait mieux et hors pistes il etait parfait! Nous avons été les premières personnes sur la remontée de Freychet a 13h 30 - en haut la neige etait plus profond et hors piste à côté des pistes noir etait quelques chose especiale. Des terrains raides pour les grand virages a vitesse! - maintenant je connais la joie du ski hors piste!

On the way home a granite boulder the size of a medicine ball, flew across the road just in front of the car as it hurtled down the hillside - a lucky escape.

Le rentrée un grand pierre de granite traverse la route quelques metres avant ma voiture sur son descent - l'echapper belle!
