Moving wood

Yesterday was cold and wet and thundery...but today was hot again. I spent the morning logging the big walnut tree. It's difficult moving big bits of tree trunk in field 1 which is pretty steep. Perhaps the best bit of wood was from the base of trunk, about 65cm diameter and nearly a metre long, a fair few hundred kilos. I was rolling it across the slope with the aid of a "peavey" when I lost control of it and it veered downhill. It quickly gathered speed, smashing through fences and crashing down into the woods, ending up in the brook at the bottom of a ravine. Doubt I will be able to get it out, still there's plenty more.

The photocopies of the manuals for the baler and sickle-bar mower arrived at lunchtime, so in the afternoon I started setting up the baler and synchronising the knotters. The knotters needed their positions adjusted slightly but the adjusting bolts were rusted solid. I managed to free one but in trying to loosen the other I sheared part of the steel adjuster in half. I tried to get the identical piece from the rusting machine in the field but it did exactly the same thing. So I've had to fabricate a replacement. It's made of two pieces and hopefully Yves can braise or weld them together for me tomorrow.

Hier, il faisait froid et humide et orageux ... mais aujourd'hui, il fait chaud encore. J'ai passé la matinée coupant le gros noyer. Il est difficile de déplacer les morceaux du grand tronc dans le pré No 1 qui est assez raide. Peut-être le meilleur morceau de bois (de la base du tronc) était à environ 65cm de diamètre et près d'un mètre de longeur, un centaines de kilos. J'ai été rouler sur la pente à l'aide d'un peavey quand j'ai perdu le contrôle de celui-ci et il a viré en descente. Il est vite prit de la vitesse, cassant les clôtures et s'écraser dans les bois, se retrouvent dans le ruisseau au fond d'un ravin.

Les photocopies des notice d'entretiens pour la presse et la barre de coup sont arrivé à midi, donc dans l'après-midi, j'ai commencé de regler la presse et synchroniser les noueurs. Les noueurs ont besoin de leurs positions légèrement modifié, mais la vis de réglage étaient rouillées solides. J'ai réussi à libérer un, mais en essayant de desserrer, d'autre part, je cisaillée en deux. J'ai essayé d'obtenir la pièce identique de la machine rouille dans le domaine au dessus chez-moi, mais il fait exactement la même chose. Donc j'ai eu à fabriquer un remplacement. Il est fait de deux pièces et, j'espére que Yves peut les braiser pour moi demain.
