Bloody Baler

The knotters

A bit of joinery work in the Sandrine's gite kitchen first thing in the morning, then back to the baler. It's turning into a bit of a nightmare. When I said "it works perfectly" I spoke too soon.

The knotters (the achilles heel of balers) are proving to be a pain in the arse. I've got to the stage where they are tying a knot in the baler twine but still haven't managed to get the knot off the "billhook". Knotting happens incredibly quickly and the only way to see the process is to turn the baler over by hand using the flywheel. Conveniently this is positioned just out of sight of the knotting compartment. Hours seem to drift by whilst I skin my knuckles, fettle with rusted components, curse and blaspheme, all to little avail.

Strong South winds early this morning bring in the clouds
The ruins of Chateau Mirabat catch the morning sun - should be a Buddhist temple.
