More lambs

Tara has given birth to twin girls at lunchtime, but she has rejected them both. At first I managed to get them to suckle by restraining her but she soon got wise to this and prevented them from finding her teats by side stepping or kicking them away. In the field she head butted them away or tossed them into the air even though they had only just managed to stand.

Au début, j'ai réussi à les faire téter en tirer elle, mais elle a vite obtenu à ce sage et les empêchait de trouver ses mamelles ou de les expulser de là. Dans le domaine elle les aboutés ou à les jeter en l'air, même s'ils avaient seulement réussi à marcher.

I tried everything I could think of - smearing their rear ends with placenta, taking them away and then reintroducing them, but she wouldn't except them as hers. The chances of survival for the lambs were slim : (

I managed to extract a little colostrum from her by hand but it was slow work. I phoned the vet to try and get hold of some artificial colostrum but she was out on call and couldn't help. I called Alban (the only local farmer) and he gave me some formula milk for sheep and a teat. The lambs were barely sucking despite being thoroughly warmed in front the fire. I've resorted to giving them milk with the doser (used for giving the sheep anthelmintics). At least this way I know roughly how much they've had. I'll sleep on the sofa tonight and try to feed them every time they wake up. If they survive until the morning - I'll probably build an adoption pen so that they can suckle from Tara whether she likes it or not - if they have the instinct.

J'ai réussi à extraire un peu de colostrum de sa a la main, mais il était lent travail. J'ai téléphoné le vétérinaire pour essayer de s'emparer de colostrum artificiel, mais elle était sur appel et ne pouvait pas aider. J'ai appelé Alban (le seul agriculteur local) et il m'a donné du lait maternisé pour les ovins et une tétine. Les agneaux ont été à peine sucer tout en étant complètement chauffé devant le feu. J'ai eu recours à leur donner le lait avec le doseur (utilisé pour donner l'anthelminthiques moutons). Au moins de cette manière je sais à peu près combien ils ont eu. Je vais dormir sur le canapé ce soir et essayer de les nourrir à chaque fois ils se réveillent. S'ils survivent jusqu'au matin - je vais sans doute créer un carcon afin qu'ils puissent téter Tara qu'elle le veuille ou non - si elles ont l'instinct.

I suspect Mini has twins too. If she doesn't or one dies I might be able to foster one of Tara's offspring to her. I'm sure she'll give birth in the next day or two.

Je soupçonne Mini a des jumeaux aussi. Si elle n'est pas ou l'on meurt je pourrais être en mesure de favoriser l'un des descendants de Tara à elle. Je suis sûr qu'elle va accoucher dans les deux prochains jours.
